Birthday Blog

In life, what a tremendous gift it is to have people we can call our friends. But, I'm speaking here not just about any friends.

What I’m talking about now are those rare people whose sanity so resembles our own, we feel little fear in asking each other questions such as:

1. Do you want to collaborate on the writing of an autobiographical sock puppet musical and then really perform it before dozens of people? (My idea. Not a bad one, either, but I think the choreography may have been off.)

2. Do you want to go with me to buy a gift for a guy friend – a male action figure doll I’m going to dress in a cute, sequined tutu? (Miss G.’s idea.)

3. Do you want to join me as I swat everyone upside the head with a newspaper on my last day at work? (Miss G.’s idea. Yes- that was an interesting day.)

4. Do you want to buy matching socks over our lunch break? (Mutual idea.)

5. Do you want to hang and plaster funny pictures all over our manager’s office walls & ceiling when he’s out ? (Mutual idea. Okay — maybe it was mine. Who remembers for sure after all this time?)

6. Should I just see what happens if I send a VIP corporate contact an e-mail with the single word “Achoo.”? (Miss G’s idea- and again, a really good one. But – mystifyingly, no response from the client.)

7. Should we collaborate on the writing of really bad fiction based on our coworkers and ourselves and eventually get pretty much everyone in the Creative Dept. to join us?
(Mutual idea – have yet to get those in print.)

Ah — these particular tales were of so long ago! But, the scary (but true) stories go on!

In recognition of her birthday (March 8), my latest blog is for "Miss G." or the character of which I speak above -- my one-time co-worker and good friend, Gina.

In the many years I have known her, she has been and become a wife, mother, teacher, photographer, writer, artist/illustrator & novelist-in-the-works and most recently has even added an adorably zany new friend to partake in our mischief — a miniature Miss G.— her little one, Abby. But really, what is Gina's absolute best feature?

Well ... did I mention she has a dog named Mia? (Miss G.'s idea -- and well before I even knew her.)

Happy Birthday, Gina!

  • I am quite flattered. :) Thank you for the memories and laughs of our past adventures.
